Bruz: I got this 3 hours away in Farmington, CT while I was up there interviewing for a Wholesale Account Executive position with a mortgage lender. And I cracked it after a long productive day of online job hunting for the same position. Very cold, crisp easy to drink beer. An extremely clean taste. But such an easy tasting brew makes me realize how weak it is... not a 40 you'll get buzzed from. Going to fax my accountant some paperwork now, then continue watching Wife Swap (then 24). This is actually too easy to drink, so easy that it's a negative. It tastes like club soda, just carbonated water. No flavor what-so-ever. This Wife Swap show is hilarious and disturbing at the same time - these families are trainwrecks. Ate a lot of Tostitos with this swill. Speaking of which, the swill's just like the rest. In the end, I can only justify giving this classic oldschool brew 5/10 swills. Many many thanks out to "CBL Charlie" for the oldest bottle in my collection - the uniquely shaped Black Label 40oz from 1969!

2/19/11 Maltliquorcommando: Until now I've never had this beer, although i've seen it in cases around here for next to nothing. I picked this 40 up in Detroit.

I had a hell of a time getting the cap off of this thing. I've never claimed to be Hercules but that thing was rediculous.

After finally getting the cap of I took a sip. Pretty much cheap canadian beer, almost like a dirty tasting Molson Canadian. Not bad, this beer would probably be refreshing while watching the ballgame or grilling on a hot day.

6/10

10/26/09 40ozIsMyMiddleName: I found this 40oz off of Corunna Road in Flint, Mi. First time I've even seen it in a 40 in any store. I was in the middle of searching for laser when I noticed this beer 40 to my surprise.

I got a very loud crack off this 40. The hiss was decent as well. First sip tasted great to me. Wasn't really in the mood for a beer, but I got some work to do on the 40s I picked up over the weekend and get some reviews posted.

I have had this beer in 12 oz cans from a 12 pack a couple times. One my buddies got me to try this beer for the first time over a year ago. Grabbed another 40oz of these at the store just for him since he introduced me to it. This is a beer I would recommend to someone that enjoys different cheaper beers.

Its a good beer to sip on. I would drink this beer 40 more often if it wasn't 50 minutes away from me. If I do beer 40s during a night of drinking I usually grab pabst, but I would actually rather have this because it has a better taste and its actually cheaper. Payed 1.79 for this random find in flint.

The design on the label is pretty nice and simple. I think that it would be cool if they had the carling canada maple leaf circle thats on the label on the cap it would be more interesting.

Overall 8/10

10/25/09 sleazye: Got this "bad beer" 40 from the chef himself nickmoulton. First time ever having this in a 40 oz. For some reason it doesn't get distributed in my area of MA in a 40 oz bottle but we always have the 15 packs. Cracked this open after having it in the freezer for nearly an hour and a half while listening to some Type O Negative.

The crack was loud & I oddly had to use my shirt to twist it off. The hiss was so-so to me. Aside from that, I am pleased with this 40 for the most part. The taste was somewhat reminiscent of PBR to me, but with a bite of its own. Roughly abouty 15-20 minutes into this 40 and I notice little to no change in taste at all. Even the swill is decent enough to enjoy.

Some people may be put off with the fact it's only a 5% ABV beer 40, but I like that in a way. Can have two of these, have a good enough buzz and not have to worry about a hangover.

If this were in my area, I'd have this in one of my top 4 in terms of rotation.

Taste: 8.5/10
Swill: 7/10
Buzz: 4.5/10

11/17/08 nickmoulton: Havnt reviewed a 40 in a few months

I dont know why the past few reviews have been so negative, black label beer is one of my favorite beers out of a 40
I love canadian 40s

This brew is delicious, I drink this on the reg and love it..I probably drink at least 2 of these a week.... i must have sent bad bottles to d07 and dj oe, but I find that hard to believe as I have never drank a bad black label 4 the only down factor of this bottle is its buzz factor at 5%
However, the flavor is solid, and it doesnt change at all throughout the 40

I am drinking this while eating half of a monsterous bacon, sausage and pepperoni calzone with blue cheese, and 9 "suicide" wings that my girlfriend left me in the fridge

It is 10:41, and I wish I had another to follow up, but the store that sells these is about 15 minutes away. All I have left is one MGD 12 oz and 2-3 shots of vodka.
Maybe Ill post a vid WM stylez

I am down to the swill, about 25 minutes in, and this brew is still holding the same flavor as when I cracked it
Awesome 40

Taste: 9/10
Swill: 7.5/10
Buzz: 4/10

Overall: 8/10

10/10/08 d07c0m: Finally got to swill this bottle after a long drawn out trade.

I love this stuff in cans as it tastes a world better than similar bad beers and only costs a bit more.

As for the 40, it started off tasting really nice ice cold but at about half-way it started to stink and taste like sweat.

Shit was not fun.

Classic beer, awesome looking 40, drink it while it's cold.

5/10

9/18/08 dj oe 800: thanks to nickmoulton for the hookup.

for some reason this was a little hard to crack, had to use my shirttail for traction. has a fairly gross smell, no surprise there. HOLY SHIT the initial taste of this is DISGUSTING, but nothing i can't handle. the lingering aftertaste is no big deal, one i'd normally associate with bad beer. really, really dirty in taste, and mad carbonated. i prefer this in cans, so far. the date code (081108) indicates a recent, but passed "sell by" date, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

the initial horrid taste and managable lingering aftertaste have switched positions -- gross film in my mouth like a hangover, almost. the cure? wouldn't you know it, it's taking another sip.

i drank two cans of beast ice before this, and even though i'm just at the label, the buzz this shit packs looks to be painfully modest.

an essential in any collection, but for every day use, i'd stick to the 12 oz cans.

DaHookUp7Mile: Finally grabbed one of these, Dont believe ive ever drank one before but they've always been around.

I like the label its got a classic look to it.

Nice crack but not much hiss. Not any smell to it. Barley any taste to it so far, It has a lil bit of the skunkyness you get off some batches of heinken but nothing bad. No buzz really, No taste really throughout the whole 40, Down to the swill now. Wasnt bad, Wasnt great, Like said just average. Id drink it at a bbq for sure, Ill give it a 6/10.

eyehategod7: This is one good smooth beer and cheap too, I can get six packs of this stuff for around $2.25. For an inexpensive good brew, you can't go wrong with Black Label Beer.

Fat John: Not really a whole lot to say about this 40.I found it in the suburbs of the D.Just your average plain ol' beer 40.Taste alright but not great.Flows pretty smoothly.Gave me a kinda warm feeling on this cold michigan night but no real buzz.Swill just flowed like the rest of it.I'm hittin this shit up with a rating of 5 outta 10 swills just because its average in every way so it doesn't really deserve lower but the weak(non-existent) buzz keeps it from getting any higher.

ImissMy64oz: got this from fat john
pounded it last night while watching scarface
it was awesome
great taste
nice little buzz
8/10
id drink this alot if i could get it

JoeWebberlione: First off Thanks to Dukesplace for hooking me up with this brew that I havent been able to have in quiet some time now! Crack was decent, smells like Ballentine or Gennese Ice. First taste makes me think smooth and slick. Used to smash these back in college, just as tasty as I remember. Doesnt taste like Ballentine though, tastes more like Old Milwaukee. This stuff packs a decent buzz for being a "bad beer" although maybe thats just due to the fact that I dont drink half as much as I used to. 8 out of 10 swills.

neufutur: This beer has a little bit of a bite to it, which makes me want to liken it to types like Ballantine. There is a decent body throughout this beer that will ensure you iwll have a decent time finishing up this beer. This is no Schaefer where one can just slam it down. It actually ttastes like beer, and for that, it gets another few style points. This was acquired in a trade with Dukesplace, and is deserving of a 7 out of 10. I'd grab this if I only had beer 40s to choose from, for sure.

satan165: Thanx to 40 oz killa for this bitch (and the Schaefer). This is no different then any other swill beer. Its definately better out of a 40. From a can it would be hardly drinkable. Who gives a fuck. Its totally average. Malts can taste funky but this is just boring.

White Mike: Got to try this today on a trade, thanks to 40 ounce killa. Haven't had a beer 40 in a long while, so this was refreshing. A good beer taste all the way down. None of the good or bad, side effects of malt tho, like a buzz, or a harsh swill. So worth trying, but not on a regular basis.
