Bruz: I'm sitting here sippin on a 40 of Colt 45 Double Malt and I gotta tell ya... this stuff pretty much sucks. Here's the lowdown: The beginning bit is decent- your typical malt beverage, & well on its way to receiving 8/10 swills from the 40oz King. However, as it begins to lose even the slightest of chillness, it becomes very untasty. Now, down to the "swill", I must chug on like a true champ, never giving up, even when face to face with what must surely be the taste of urine. This malt gets a 5/10 swills. Not less due to it's decent taste at the start, and due to the good effect you start to feel only half way through (must be pretty strong). But the crummy 2nd half lowers its overall rating. Colt 45 Double Malt... you're a jerk. And just for the record, I had to pee 3 times before finishing this... AND it resulted in chest pains (heart burn?) and an ache in my jaw... my teeth hurt too!!! |

2/17/11 Maltliquorcommando: Just picked this up in beautiful downtown Detroit. Out of the box full of various 40's I picked up this is about the only one not very near or past its expiration date. First off the label and cap are pretty cool looking, so if you are a bottle collector this is one that would look good on display. Twisting of the cap resulted in a good crack and hiss. After putting the bottle to my mouth and taking the first sip I pretty much felt that double malt had the same basic flavor as regular colt 45,except it was a little thicker, and had very little carbanation. The closer I got to the bottom the worse the swill got. By the time I hit the bottom it was almost completly flat. Overall. I found this to be slightly worse than the original Colt 45. Part of the initial draw of this 40 for me was its limited availibility and the desire to try something new. Now that i've had it once I see no reason to chose it over the original Colt 45. 6/10 |

12/13/09 40ozHawaii: Had the Original Colt 45 many times. I wanted to try the Double Malt and see how it compared to original. I like the way this malt tasted. It had a smooth taste all the way through and with the higher percentage alcohol content, this one offered a better buzz. Very nice malt. This overrides the original in my opinion, for flavor, label, taste, and buzz. Thanks boston40hunter

11/22/09 satan165: surprising that however much the 'malt '(surely a preponderance of corn) has been doubled or otherwise increased, the usual corn sludge aroma and slow, sticky mouthfeel found in standard american malt liquors (and regular colt 45) is largely absent here. corn sweetness aroma is still present but under wraps to some extent and flavor maintains some level of crispness despite low carb.

9/8/09 40zForSatan: I recently got addicted to colt45 since it's finally made it's way out to my area, so I wanted to try the other variants and brands that they make. I had traded for this one and it sat around for a week because I had some stuff from trades that were going to expire sooner than later, so now here I am, ready to assault this double malt on my lunch break. It had a decent crack, not the most amazing hiss but at least there WAS a hiss. Took my first swill and I was pretty happy with it, initial sweetness like an OE but then it smooths out to a mild malt aftertaste. I didn't experience the problems everyone talks about where it gets warm fast, I swilled with this for about an hour and it stayed cold, obviously not as cold as when I started but not even close to room temp when I was done.

8/16/09 SouthLyon40s: I've only had this once before. I found it in Detroit in 2007 meeting up with Detroit40Ouncer. I'd always been pumped about it since I like regular Colt 45, I LOVED Colt Ice Beer, and the idea of a 40 with "double" the maltiness always sounded good to me. In a score of around 8-10 new 40s from the meeting, I chose this one as the first to drink. And I really didn't like it at all. At least that's what I remember. For whatever reason it just didn't taste that great. Who knows. I DID pick it up at a pretty shady spot in Detroit... so maybe it was old? I remember it being thick and sweet and just not that enjoyable. And here I stand today with a Colt 45 Double Malt in front of me. I was in the north east Detroit area looking at cars. For whatever reason, stepping into a random liquor store off Gratiot Ave I just EXPECTED to see this 40 again. And I did, two rows of it chilling on the bottom. So I picked up six. Lets see if time has either jaded my tastebuds or something else was an issue. And... time has been kind. At least taste-wise according to the first couple of sips. I'm impressed. This is not bad at all. I'm glad I bought so many. We're experiencing almost record smoothness over here in South Lyon. As of right now (I'm just reaching the label) I'm willing to say that I'd take it over the normal Colt 45. Weird that two years almost after the main brand's Colt 45 label switched, this one remains. You just don't hear much commotion about Double Malt in general though I'd say. Cruising through the label, and the taste is remaining. I'm not noticing any sudden flatness epidemics with this one like other dudes have mentioned. I'm getting a little bit "extra" maltiness taste wise. But it's just that. It's the tiniest hint at one single extra hop added to a regular Colt 45. Nothing double about this. This could have ventured into Wild Cat territory and been awesome instead of just good. There's a god damn cicada in my room right now. Screaming. I spent the last quarter of the Double Malt trying to locate him but no luck. I'm not sure exactly what I had against this the first time I drank it. Thought it was "thick" but it didn't come off that way now. Taste was better than average. Nothing much to say about the Buzz. Exact same as a regular Colt 45 or basically any around 6.0% malt.
I want more of these. ![]() |

7/28/09 ajm91730: Whenever I see a 40 I haven't had, I usually pick it up. Such was the case with Colt 45 Double Malt. At first sip I thought this was one smoooooth malt liquor, but as I finished the gulp it disappointed me. My impression is that it is lacking that initial alcohol taste/burn of many malts, and then it just tastes like a cheap beer, albiet a strong one. Personally, I kind of like that initial sting that many malts give, and most have a better finish, so I'd stick with your regular Colt, OE, 211, or whatever. However the buzz factor isn't terrible, and it tastes way better than say, Magnum. Taste - 3, Buzz factor - 6, Overall - 4. |

6/21/09 splatterhouse00: Mr Breez hooked me up with this, I haven't had regular colt for awhile so I can't compare, but this stuff is delicious I didn't notice the taste getting worse as I got farther down the bottle. So I can't relate to a lot of the other reviews who say the same. If I could find this near me I'd drink on the daily. 7.5/10 |
6/8/09 sleazye: I also scored this new 40 in a trade with Mr. Brezz. I saw this getting pretty much bad reviews, so here goes... Decent crack and decent hiss when I opened it up. Compared to regular Colt 45 (which I am a huge fan of) the taste is kind of reminiscent of regular Colt 45 but thicker. First few minutes in, taste is great but as it gets warmer the tastes gets progressively worse as it gets warmer. How the makers of regular Colt 45 would want to make a recipe that included a good heaping teaspoons of shit I will never know. Only reason I would recommend this is if you're looking for a new 40 for your collection.
Taste: 3/10 |

4/20/09 D4N0: Had this a long time ago. Made a vid for it with Cousin' Moe. Did not finish it in the 10 min period. Basically I wanted to "enjoy" this 40. Considering that Colt 45 is my favorite 40 I wanted to give this 40 a fair chance at review. Overall, more powerful than the original Colt 45. Taste isn't that much different than the reg. Colt. Towards the swill it got a little worse. 7/10 taste. 8/10 buzz. 7.5/10 overall. |
4/17/09 havinafett: I'll be honest, by the time I got through with this stuff, I was pretty disappointed. The beginning was fine and tasted alright, a lot like regular colt (go figure) but something different I can't quite put my finger on. Seemed like a decent malt. But as I drank it it seemed to get flatter, and not in the normal sense of a 40. I mean like FLAT, fucking FAST, and I drink fast anyway, but apparently not fast enough for this stuff. This stuff seemed like it was a magnet for flattness and warmness... I don't know, maybe I just got a dud or something. But I see no reason for this stuff to exist at all. It's like someone said, "you know what'd suck? if we took a decent beverage like Colt 45 and made it flatter, warmer... and made it feel like you'd been drinking a milkshake when you're halfway through the bottle." and then they invented it... 4/10 ![]() |

3/29/09 maltliquorswigga: Man I love this stuff, only thing i dislike is the swill, cuz its just too damn flat tasting, anyway I first seen this shiznit back in 1996 at the Rt 422 Drive Thru in Coitsville,Ohio. We had never even heard of it so my boy who was legal copped us like 3 40's of this and a 64 of it, after that day I never seen DM in a 64 again. Anyway I really Liked the taste and the buzz, I notice the majority of all dont like the Double Malt, but hey im feelin it, much rather drink this than regular Colt. Havent drank one in a year or 2 since No one in town carries it, and gas is too expesive to make out of town beer runs, unless your already out of town...The Beer in Ohio(any size) is much cheaper than it is in Pa... Example OE 40's are like $2-2.25 and over here in New Castle,Pa they cost between $2.50-3.25. Anyway Colt Double Malt is a decent malt. Taste-A, Drinkability A, Buzz A- Overall I'd Say 7.5/10.... |
2/28/09 Magruder: Ripped this one for the first time last night, opened with a nice crack and hiss. A lot smoother than a regular colt, and a bit sweeter too. Overall a pretty mellow tasting 40 that was enjoyable. 8.5/10 swills. |
2/02/09 computertekguy: Picked this up in Detroit while starting my new job. Ice cold from being out in my car in the middle of winter. Smooth as hell, IMO much better than regular colt. Smooth as silk, a bit sweet, and refreshing. Almost no after taste, which makes it incredibly easy to drink. ABV is low but i'm sure as fast as i'm drinking it, the buzz will roll on strong. 8/10 because it just could of been stronger. |
7/22/08 91firebird: Thanks to JoeWebberlione for the hookup on the Dub Malt. Crack was nice, small hiss. 1st swig and I immediately think regular Colt 45. No biggie because Colt 45 is my fav 40, but for some reason this was identical to regular Colt. A slight bit heavier but all in all it's the same as the original. Decent 40 overall. Buzz factor was about the same as regular Colt. Swilled a couple MBI 12ozers afterwards and I'm feelin good on a Tuesday night. 8/10 swills overall for a great addition to a malt that is very regional. Thanks again to JoeWebberlione for hooking me up with this 40. I'm sure he had to hunt the ghettos of Maine to get this lol |
662: the double malt is thick, I swear that 40 is 1000 calories alone, it's faul |
40ozcasualty: First off, thanks to MyLiverHurts for hooking me up with this much wanted 40! This 40 is a little darker than reg. Colt 45, but very similiar tasting. You could have blindfolded me and handed me a C45 Double Malt and told me it was a reg. Colt 45. Except for the darkness of the brew and the different label I would never have known. Anyway, just as a regular Colt 45, I give it 10/10 for working every time! |
Alvin Karpis: Big thanks to my East Coast hook up JoeWebberlione for this great looking 40. First sip made my taste buds say Colt 45. Hard to tell the two apart. Pounded it fast before dinner on a all day empty stomach, so it gave me a nice mello buzz. I cant really say much else about the Double Malt besides that it has the Colt 45 flavor. I was expecting an OE vs OE HG type deal with this and regular Colt 45. At least it didnt piss me off like the OE HG did. Taste 9/10 always liked the Colt 45 taste. Buzz 6/10 (Empty stomach) Overall 7/10 ![]() |

beam21: hmmm hello old friend, haven't had one of these hoes since wisconsin july '05... ripped some the previous year in maine as well which is where this came from courtesy of joe webb... I always loved this 40 (and reg colt also) but it's been so long since I've had either it's hard to draw comparisons. memory says this is almost exactly like reg colt but a lil better; current diagnosis is I'm a bit too drunk to be fully objective but this is fucking delicious. I don't need to wait til the end to summarize, I've been there and I know what to expect. great to get my hands on a colt product of any sort, I know it's unusual but any such thing is unheard of in portland and rare in seattle; though obviously double malts are next level and unattainable. this is a great 40 and gets bonus cause I have nothing but awesome memories attached to bombing on these in my travels. taste B+ buzz C+ 8.5/10 |
BoozeClues: This one is very abundant in the Washington DC area, easier to find than even regular Colt 45! A very enjoyable malt liquor with a smooth taste, but weak alcohol content. I don't usually get this because it's on the weakest side of malt liquors, but it does have a nice thick taste, probably one of the best for malt liquor. The aforementioned buzz is nearly the same you'd get from drinking a 40 of beer. It is a nice 40 for the beginner or for a woman if you roll Billy Dee Williams style and serve them malt liquor. 9 of 10 swills for taste, 3 of 10 for buzz factor, so I'd average it out to 6 of 10. |
Buzzcore: Contrary to popular opinion, I think I might like this stuff better than regular C-45? It's not as fizzy and it tasts a little different, but it's misleading.................you'd think "Double Malt" would have more octane than the regular ol' Colt 45. But no, it's still the measly 5.61% that doesn't do much more than beer. Hmm, like I said, it definitely tastes different, but I'm not sure if it tastes any better? I think a blind taste test is in order, like the old "Coke vs. Pepsi" wars of the early 80's. Or should that be Coke vs. New Coke? Until then though, it gets the same 4/10 rating I gave Colt 45. |
DC40s: Let me start this off by saying that the best thing about this malt is the bottle. I drank this stuff for a bit when I lived in Providence, but until recently I didn't think it was sold in the Washington, DC metro area. But it turns out it is (I found it in Bethesda, right outside DC). I think it tastes pretty much like Colt 45 regular. In fact, the only difference is that the Double Malt is a bit darker in color. My big beef with this stuff is that with a name like "Double Malt" it should have at least a 7% alcohol content. But no dice. This shit has about the same buzz factor as regular Colt 45. But, again, the bottle and cap are really cool looking. |
DolbyZero: Yo, Yo, Yo, This double malt gives Billy D a good name. I thought it was fan-fucking-tastic. It was smooth as OE 800 but with a better buzz. I really do think that this is Colts middle-finger malt, it tells all of the competition that they are in the game for real and they say "Double Malt Like Whut!!!". I give this badass a mad 9 out of 10 swills, cuz this bitch is off teh hook. |
Drastic Mezures: This is one of the 40's I found in Penn when me and Crazy Carl went. Man the people in Philly are lucky. This is available at every liquor store in town. I love the original Colt but this is so much better it makes the regular one seem plain and watered down. Double Malt is so thick it's like drinking syrup but when it goes down it goes down like a regular 40. It also has a good buzz thats a little stronger than regular Colt. Double Malt was so good that when I went back to Philly I got a case of it. After that Ghetto V discovered a store that sells it out east but they only had it in cans so hopefully the 40s will be coming to Long Island soon. |
drunkenbird611: i lkie it,its smooth going down and its buzz factor is pretty good too |
elantrax: My first impression was why dont they make all colt 45. taste like this. This was way better then the regular colt 45. and the buzz was little bit more compaired to regular. Overaul I think this is a really good 40 and so far I only seen it in Philly. This must be the sought after 40 in Philly cause the store that had it was stocked up on all there other 40's but the one row that was half empty was Double Malt.. |
Fat John: colt 45 double malt is good shit.I'd take it over regular colt any day |
ImissMy64oz: polished this bitch off as well as coors lite and im kinda bmbed |
jimbone: Maybe I'm just in a good mood about finals being done for the day, but then this fucker was smooth all the way through and I'm getting an OK buzz for midday, took me about 45 minutes. This thing tasted like water, but tastie water. I don't know what to say. |
JoeWebberlione: I like the double a lot more than the single, dunno what it is. I think its the flavor. Eiather way I usually steer away from the single malt due to everyone in my area seems to think its the only type of 40 in the world (fuckin morons) unless of cource its the double malt. |
John Holmes: Great crack... not so great hiss..... feelin good near the end... swill is bearable. bottom-line... it's a great 40 that I would drink again... but it makes me mad that it doesn't even vaguely attempt to be its own malt... I'll give it a 7/10 swills. |
LMSCRacer: My thanks to neufutur for pointing me in the right direction to find a single Colt 45 Double Malt at Charlie Chickens in Washington PA. Drank this during the second period of game 7 of the Stanley Cup. The stuff seemed an awful lot like Colt 45 (which is not a bad thing). Decent enough hiss. Good carbonation and taste right down through the swill. A nice follow up to the Iron City I had first. 6/10 swills. |
MarkBlackout: The label is slightly better than the contents. Colt 45 Double Malt is fairly similar to the original Colt 45, and that's somewhat dissappointing. It has its own character, but its still a fairly basic malt. Hard to tell whether the buzz factor is higher than regular, but I want to say that it is the same. Not bad at all and entirely worth buying if this is down at your corner store. 7 out of 10 swills. |
neufutur: This 40 tastes a lot better than the same brew in the 24 oz can. This reminds me a lot of Wild Cat, but the Wild Cat has a little more malt than the double malt. The swill even tastes pretty decent, with a hint of the original taste maintaining even though the watery taste starts to take over. This 430 would be good at Ohio prices - $1.59 or so - instead of the $3.25 I paid for it at a pizza place in Pittsburgh. Something individuals could come back to time and time again; I give this one a 7 out of 10. |
nitz011: Drank this last night, got it from 5.0 Pretty average, nothing special, taste like regular Colt 45 to me. Weak buzz factor too. 4/10 buzz 6/10 taste |
OldeGoldSwilla: when i first found this one i was excited...untill I swilled it. It was fairly basic and quite thick. Double malt but not much more buzz-a dissapointment |
pman433: bruz i must totally disagree with the injustice you gave colt double malt.it is now my favorite.very smooth not a bad after taste good clean buzz and not bad when getting warm( for warm malt that is) perhaps you got a skunked bottle or a bad batch? |
satan165: Had a number of problems getting this one, but thanks to the patience of my man from Baltimore, Drunkenbird611, everything worked out in the end. This is one of my all time most wanted 40s! ![]() |
Tiger Tai: Ya can't go wrong wit a Double Malt I like it more than regular Colt 45. Tastes smoother to me personally and seems to have a better buzz factor... I'll rate Colt 45 Double Malt 8 of 10 Swills. |
Vile Fiend: First off, big ups to DC40’s for hookin me up with this 40. When I first opened this I expected it to taste like a much heavier, darker version of Colt 45. But with the first taste I barely recognized a difference. It was SLIGHTLY thicker than regular colt45, but all in all, it was pretty much the same great tasting, small buzz yielding brew. I’ll give this 40 8 outta 10 swills because the great taste and excellent label, but very modest buzz. |
White Mike: I had this for the first time on Friday, big shout out to my man Dolby for hookin me up with another 40. Let me first say that I don’t like colt 45. I know that’s weird, I am a huge malt fan and all, but just don’t like the 45. I had heard that double malt is much smoother and I would have to agree. When I first cracked it open it smelled funky and nasty. The taste was so so, definitely smoother than the original colt 45. I finished it down to the last drop with no problem. And with the help of some RedRum it yielded a nice little buzz. The thing with colt 45 is I must have some sort of genetic thing that makes it volatile in my stomach. The next morning my ass was literally vibrating, and I had internal farts (you know the ones were your lower intestine bubbles but nothing actually comes out). Because of this I would have to say I didn’t like it, and will never drink it again |
