Bruz: Thanks out to Tesguino for the bottle! I believe technically you're not allowed to ship glass out of Mexico, so I'm lucky to even have received it empty! So once again my only option is another short changed 40 review, by swillin 3 12oz'ers at the same time instead. Everyone's had Corona. It's a good beer too, even though some people love to hate on it. Very smooth & not at all cause for bitter beerface. Flows down like gold. Eating some cheese & Triscuits with this. Not using lime, either, cuz I want to appreciate the flavor of this beer for what it is. Now I'm eating some roman holiday (ground lamb w/ pasta & sauce). Every last drop is easy to drink... which is probably why so many people like to drink it - they're weak beer drinkers. Either way, I still give this brew 7/10 swills (8/10 with lime)! NOTE: Corona Familiar & Corona Mega is the same as Corona Extra, just in the largest bottle available (a brown 40oz vs a clear 12oz). |

prettymuchfamous: You guessed it. Even Corona has a 40oz beer. Coming from Texas, we get all the varities of Mexican beers. Unfortunately, we only get the 24 and 32oz bottles here in the States. They don't import the 40oz to the United States and it can only be found south of the boarder. But I was lucky, my manager bought 25 of these in Mexico, brought them back to Houston, and gave me one to try after work. This Corona is a completely different beer than it's Corona Extra counterpart. It's Corona's value beer. The best anology I can think of is, Corona Extra is to Miller MGD, as Corona Familiar is to Miller Highlife. It doesn't come in the traditional American 40oz glass bottle, but the Mexican 32oz brown bottle style. Now on to the beer, Corona Familar is without a doubt, my favorite Mexican beer even though I've only had it once. And I think Corona would have a big winner in the United State's if they ever imported this brand here. Familar has a distincively dark, thicker, and richer taste when compared to Extra. But still a slight, Mexican import taste. It could almost pass as an American beer in a blind taste test. From first sip to last, it's very enjoyable. Almost unheard of in a "value beer." If your ever south of the border, I highly recommend you pick up a couple of these. You will be shocked at how great it taste. |
