Bruz: 8.0%: I first drank this years ago, from the 40 with the old label. It was sent to me by a random guy who visited my site, as opposed to someone in the 40oz Crew. When I took the initial sip I got paranoid because it tasted like no beer or malt that i've tasted before (although it did remind me slightly of M-X). So I immediately became a little suspicious... I poured some out, and sure enough it looked more like urine than brew. Long story short, I talked to him again and am confident he did NOT pee in it. Now, all these years later, I have my chance to drink it again, with the new label, 8.0% version: No crack what-so-ever... cap came off real loosely. No hiss. Thankfully it WAS carbonated. Initial taste was worrisome... just like the first time, years ago, this is a definite unique flavor. So many different things going on with this beer... it's watery, yet has a strong alcohol taste. There's also elements of american "bad beer" (think Schaefer), Ballantine Ale (think the spicy flavor), and Steel Reserve 211 (that touch of high gravity). Somewhere towards the beginning of this I was sort-of liking it... that feeling didn't last too long though. I think there may be some factory worker's pee mixed in for even extra flavor and to help give you those super foamy burps. The swill starts 2/3 into the beer, as opposed to just the final inch like most others. It's a fizzy watery high gravity mess. Overall, 4/10 swills for at least being unique. Thanks out to Sgt J-Mo & Chad for these!

1/3/10 40ozfirebird: Gold Extra does have a Questionable Skanky Taste thats for sure, However at 8% its fairly smooth for what it is, not a bad sippin 40oz I would give it a 7/10 packs a good punch tastes a little weird but isnt that bad at all, but I do get mine fresh not sure how bad it would be sitting in the bottle for a few months. Its worth a try for sure just wish they made it in a clear bottle with a wide mouth.

8/13/09 d07c0m: Cracked this just now after a Night Hawk.

Thanks to crosman for this beast.

This is unlike all 40s.

9%

Tastes like a 9% Micro

There is some actual hop flavour in this thing.

Nothing complex, a little bit of common +8% funk

In general this is incredible, it goes down like a microbrew, it tastes like a microbrew, but it buzzes like an electrical storm.

I'm fucking hammered after this 40.

Awesome label, great taste, spectacular this and that, I like the Extra Gold Gold Extra.

Straight out of Saskatoon.

8/10

DPX: I just drank this decent bottle while listening to Mr Bungle. Like Rick said, there is little hiss at cracking the bottle open, and after the starting gulps it has a bit of that spiked liquor taste--meaning it tastes a little synthetic. But it does not have a sick taste, and no burning sensation going down. It is actually somewhat smooth, though has a little strange taste. The taste/aftertaste is about the same right till the end--not great, but not terrible. The swill, for me at least, had none of that highly residue weirdness, but tasted just like the start. The taste is not an "organic" taste, and instead tastes like the finished liquor sat in a fermentation machine just to add an extra few percentages to the alcohol. Though since it is not hard to drink, it is worth the price--being the cheapest forty I've bought recently at 3.00 Canadian. (Canada seems to have high prices for 40oz.) I bought this one at Superstore Liquor store for a little over 3.00, though I have bought it at other liquor stores for at least a dollar and a half more.
My conclusion is that it is not bad, and though it is not smooth, it is not a difficult drink and brings on a good buzz. I was feeling the buzz quite early in the bottle, since I have eaten nothing and am sort of sick. After I finished I had a cheap cigarette, which helped to give me a massive euphoria that made me sit down for a few minutes. My recommendation for this bottle is to take a day off, drink it in the hot sun and smoke a good cheap cigarette and you will be flying for a little.
Great Western (who makes this 40) also has the cheapest canned Malt Liquor I've ever found. 4 bucks CDN for a six pack. I enjoy it much. Check this 40 out--You might enjoy it. 7 swills out of 10 maybe?

RickCarling: I saw this 40 at the G&R licka mart and wanted to try it, so yesterday i bought a couple. Heres the lowdown..
Twisting the cap off, there was zero crack, and a weak little hiss. Took my first sip, and it tastes pretty good, malty, and hoppy. Oddly enough, the taste varies from sip to sip..sometimes a bit like perfect 10, and sometimes like colt 45. This shit goes down pretty smooth...and it isnt even really cold. Im startin to feel a slight buzz, but not totally wasted. I like this brew quite a bit, way better than big bear. plus its got a small mouth bottle! how can you fuck with that? anyway, im gonna watch a movie now.. i wil say this brew is wicked as hell and i will drink it again! hell, ive got another in the fridge! 10/10 swillz for this exceptional "Extra Strong Beer"

Sgt JMo: I may be partially drunk but Im sobering up real quick cuz I just finished walking about 25 blocks to get home. I had lots of fresh air. But to the point: Extra Gold is an excellent 40!! Im going as far as saying I loved it way more than CAMO!! Thats a big step for me! It had swill like a perfect 10 and a buzz like a black bull! Its 9% alcohol was not to be tasted at all as every bit of it had a sweet kind of taste!! It tasted good even being warm and I recommend this to EVERYBODY!! I think this is my new 40 of choice simply because its easy to get and it tastes excellent and packs an amazing punch!! It did the job so good that I was dancing in my underwear at the bar! Extra Gold is Extra fine!!
