Bruz: There was basically no crack & hardly any hiss upon opening this, to be honest I got a little depressed. However, it tasted like a good brown bottled 40oz beer, so the depression wore away. I swilled it while snacking on some Cheez-It Twisterz 'Hot Wings & Cheesy Blue' chips (about time someone made a hot wings & blue cheese flavored treat). The whole 40 was good, no complaints, definitely a good beer to get if you can find it. No pee & no buzz factor yield this only a 6/10 swills. Up next... White Mountain Icer Frostberry Chill 40oz! 11/30/10 havinafett: Picked this up in Cleveland.
I had it once before but it was kind of warm and didn't really do much for me.
This one I stashed in the freezer for a while.

I hate these goddamn tab caps.
Smelled kind of shitty but tasted good, typical ice beer.
It was super cold when I cracked it. Left it in the freezer a little too long.

I thought it was a good ice beer, nothing fantastic but pretty decent.
I like it better than the regular Genessee if I'm remembering it correctly.
Not unlike my feelings on beast and MBI
although on a scale of greatness those two are much, much farther apart from each other.
I'd probably pick this up if I could get it, especially for how cheap I think these things usually are.
Granted in PA the price would be jacked up but I got this one for $1.79 which is super cheap to me.
Just found out I can get the new 24s of this around me recently.
I can see myself picking up a few of those from time to time.
As it warmed up the taste grew on me more and more.

on a side note
I drank two Ballantine 12oz bottles a while before this and although the genny ice made me rip some huge burps they all tasted like Ballantine.
thus reaffirming its position as the superior brew and making it hard to concentrate on the genny ice.

10/9/10 BWill40s: Good old Genesee Ice. This 40oz showed up around here a couple of months ago and it's stuck around. Coming in at $1.50 I guess that's maybe the reason why it's a hit.

The 40oz is alot better tasting then the genny ice in the can imo. 5.5 is a little lower for the normal ice beers. Though this makes it also a little bit tastier. The only problem I would say when you go to crack the classic genny 40 there is never a hiss no idea why the used tabs instead of rings.

I always think i'm getting a skunked brew. Never is though. All in all it's not a bad 40 to pick up if your low on cash and want a buzz.

I will give this 7-10 swills try it for yourself you may enjoy it!

The label is badass aswell. Has that oldschool style of of a 40oz

1/25/10 DaHookUp7Mile: Bought at Southtown Liquor in Southgate, Michigan. $1.69 a 40.

Decent hiss but ring stayed on cap.

Pretty good taste, Ive always wanted to try a Genesee brand 40, Mainley the cream ale but this'll do for now.

Very clean taste, Says 5.5% alch so i doubt ill catch much of a buzz but its a nice relaxing kick start to the night 40.

As mentioned its keeping the same taste throughout the 40, No complaints there though because it has a good classic taste to it.

Overall ill give it a 7/10. Has that old school look that brings me back to my childhood of my father and his homie Big Steve killing 40's of Red Dog and others. Not something ill buy on the reg but something ill buy again.

1/7/10 40ozIsMyMiddleName: To me this tasted like one of the best ice beers i've ever had in a 40. Mine had a consistent clean taste throughout drinking. Got a small buzz when I was finished with this 40.

I really do wish I had bought a 2nd one while I snapped up the 3 genesees in Cleveland. Found this at Halloh Square Deal, across the street from one of the biggest sets of project housing in Cleveland no less. 1.69 for this 40 was a great price for me.

The label is okay looking. But one thing I've noticed with every genesee 40 I've had to date, is that the ring always sticks to the cap which denied me of any crack and hiss upon opening.

11/16/09 boston40hunter: I actually liked this 40. There was no crack or hiss when I opened the bottle which was alittle disappointing. When I took my first sip I realized that I had a great 40 if your looking for something cold to pound down. It tastes great cold. You get an ok buzz of it but its not a very strong beer. I would recommend this if you want to drink a 40 and not get too fucked up but something "medium pace" to enjoy. Also, I bet this would be a 40 of choice if you are trying to do 2 40s in a 10 minute vid. The label is kinda cool. I feel like this 40 could be "neighbors" with golden anniversary.

Tastes like an average ice beer, not very pronounced although swillable.

Not very edgy though (like MBI).

Easy going though and according to boston40hunter this was less than $1.79 so go figure.

10/13/09 91firebird: Props to boston40hunter for the Genny Ice 40. This 40 was a bit of a dissapointment to me. I've had Genny Cream Ale in the past (12oz bottles) and its a solid beer. I was really looking forward to a crisp clean Ice beer. First off the cap came off with the ring and there was no hiss. Not a good sign. I thought maybe this had leaked a bit but apparently it was in tact. It definately had some carbonation but not enough to make this enjoyable. This isn't horrible but it's far from good. MBI and Lite Ice are the standards in my book when it comes to Ice beer. This 40 is somewhere in the range of a Schlitz Ice or MSR Ice 40. Low lever beer 40 that shouldn't cost more than a 1.50. Overall this gets about a 5/10. I was really hoping this would knock my socks off but meh, what can you do? Wouldn't say I would never drink it again, but I certainly won't bend over backwards to get it.

Not bad, not bad. Typical "ice" taste, perhaps a little better than average (not quite MBI, but better than Milwaukee Special Reserve Ice). Didn't produce much of a buzz, but I drank it while consuming a Subway 12" Veggie Delight and 2 peanut butter cookies. I've had a few ice beers that taste "thick", but Genesee Ice remained crisp throughout. For a cheap 40, it's pretty damn good.

Buzzcore: Personally, I think it tastes like regular old Genny (which I like a lot!), just a little smoother, and with a little more of a punch. It's good stuff. I have to admit though, I'm bummin' that Dolby said it tasted better than the Colt Ice though, because I was hoping Colt Ice would kick my ass, haha!

initial crack -- tastes like your basic Bad Beer, but that's never a bad thing, in my opinion.

the only downside to Bad Beer fours is that the taste tends to never really evolve -- for better or for worse -- throughout the consumption of the forty.

halfway point -- nope, still your basic bad beer. i have indeed noticed that "hops presence" that's been mentioned regarding this brew and some others. not something that's absolutely mandatory in Bad Beer, but it's part of the appeal of many Bad Beers.

swill/finish -- just as i expected: no change in taste, texture, or even temperature.

i finished a 40 of bull ice hg about an hr before cracking this one, and it ended up ultimately supplimenting my buzz from that four. alone, the buzz would have been considerably weaker, but still acceptable.

DolbyZero: I think the Genesse Ice actually taste a little bit better than the Colt Ice. They are both 5.9% and both have about the same color. I think I could drink more of the Genessee, but it may be cuz its so fucking hot right now and I am guzzling.

JAP: Not a bad forty,,shit has a smooth taste to it and it is better than all the other 5.9% brews out there..every now and then i can find 30 pack cans of this shit and i buy it real quick cause it's only 10.99.I like this better than genny's other stuff,,althuogh the cream ale is not to bad,,come to think or it the red lager is pretty good,but genny ice makes the better 40 for its higher alcohol%.

LMSCRacer: A big thanks to DC40's for hooking me up with this one. Pretty decent for a 5.9 Ice. Good hiss off the crack. I actually sensed some hoppiness early on which faded quickly. Good right through the swill. I still rate MB Ice as the best in class, but this stuff is ok. 7/10 swills.

sippin apache: Thanks to neufutur. Great loud hiss, no crack tho, it's one of the shitty caps with no ring. No particular smell. First swig is very carbonated with a strong hops aftertaste. Tastes alright, like any other bad beer at a 5.9% alc/vol. Gotta love to hate those small mouth brown bottles feels like it alters the taste. 4/10, no more but a great addition to the collection.
