Bruz: My least favorite of the Labatt Bleue series of 40s. It's the strongest, which is fun and leads to a nice buzz, but the taste just doesn't do it for me. The 10.1% alcohol content also doesn't taste like that of american malts of that strength... our HG malts that are 9% or above tend to taste like nail polish remover in old metal containers. This wasn't as harsh or foul as that... but it was still bad... a unique badness all it's own... bad... but not horrible. If you prefer the high octane 40s, then this would be a great one for you to rip regularly. My favorite of the Labatt Bleues is still the 7.1 - it's the best balance of taste and alcohol. As undesirable to me as the 10.1 is, this is the 2nd time I've drank it, and it may not be the last. Overall, 6.25/10 swills.

2/12/11 Chuck: Whats up everybody? hey I use to drink black label BIG10's every now and then but they don't make them anymore. I think that the black label 40's changed the label to molson dry 6.5 , 7.5 , 8.5 , and 10.1 ( they made 10.1 because 10.5 would be to crazy haha) . If ever you were a black label big 10 or supreme 8 or extreme 7 drinker you will notice that its exactly the same taste as the new molson dry series! But unlike the moslon dry strong beers the labatt bleu dry series(my all time favorite brand) are much more drinkable wathever your state is.drink a moslon dry 10.1 and after a bleu dry 10.1 and you will instantly see the difference. the bleu dry is much less sweeter.the first 3 sips are strong but tolerable! after that its chugging all the way till the 40's finished and its 10:45pm , you're getting properly tipsy and you got 15 minutes to run to the depanneur to get some more(because here in montreal quebec, they stop selling beer after 11pm!!). anyways bottom line is this is the best beer to get properly drunk pretty fast. By the way I don't now why but these beer give you almost no hangover!!!

7/21/10 steer: bullshit. don't give me that shit that this is good malt liquor. I can't get this regularly but i have tasted on occasion. Ths is an okay brew with a high gravity taste. However, it is is weak sauce relative to say- camo silver etc..

not bad, but I would give this a 6/10. and not any higher in quality.

7/20/10 Mans: Growing up in Ottawa, five minutes away from Hull, Quebec, this shit was easily available. Been drinking it for years, and it never gets old. I recently moved to Montreal, and I'm drinking one right now. Decent taste, whack drunk. Black Bull is 10% as opposed to 10.1% and it's much more potent. All in all, a decent forty. Worth drinking for the bragging rights, but not for the drunk.

7/10.

4/19/09 morcz: When I first cracked this 40, I expected it to taste really similar to the molson dry 10.1% but i was wrong.

First off, this isn't sweet at all, which was surprising. For a beer with the ABV it is insanely clean, and the alcoholic taste is really non-existent. This reminds me of the bleue dry 8.1%, taste wise, and smoothness.

I was shocked just at how smooth and clean this 40 is. This 40 has all the characteristics of a perfectly brew high ABV beer
-Not Sweet
-Smooth
-NO intense alcohol burn
-Easy to pound.

Overall, this is now my 2nd favorite 40 of all time, this gets 10.1/10

3/23/09 SRSER: Initial impression with this brew was that it wasn't all that tasty and somewhat mediocre

Subsequent drinks however rendered a very easy to drink and strong buzz producing brew

I was buzzing off this brew almost immediately, and I drink 7+% brews almost exclusively so it took me a little bit by surprise

Drank it over time and it's actually really nice, you can definately taste the alcohol but it isn't apple juice or wine like at all, easy to drink, stellar buzz, and doesn't taste like hell like most hg american 40s I've had after it was open for over 30mins

I was ready to come down on this brew in the beginning but considering its consistency the whole way through and great buzz I'd give it a 8.5/10. Great, if available wouldn't make its way into my daily habits just because of the percentage but it would no doubt have the tendency to creep in.
Thanks to dotcom for the opportunity to try.

2/24/09 nickmoulton: thanks d07c0m

no crack, whatever..been lookin forward to this widemouth
first sip...weird, i was expecting an extreme burn like black bull
it offered a real sharp alcoholic taste, but it didnt warm me up like other 10% 4s ive drank before
not much to say about this 40.
I can get regular labatt widemouths around here, and get its flavor in this 40 strong strong beer flavor about 2/3 of the way down
9/10 buzz
black bull gave a better buzz though
swill was a bit rough
7/10 swill
overall 8/10

thanks d07com, good packing as well

beam21: I am STOKED for this one... Cracked like any other canadian 40 I've had. First impressions: smells real real bad, I actually made a face reactively when I took a whiff. Taste is pretty fucking strong but really not bad as long as I don't smell it at the same time. Easier said than done. This actually tastes better than any 40 8.5%+ that I've ever had, and better than most HG's period. It's hard to describe, my palette is not well developed in the ways of canadian strong beers. 15 minutes in, almost 1/2 done, temperature and taste are consistent, alcohol presence and throat burn increasing... nearing the pinger now, I've slowed down a lot, taste and temp are surprisingly consistent still. I have a major buzz and I think I feel rust forming on my kidneys. The booze flavor is VERY strong but despite that the flavor is inoffensive... Gone. Swill was nonexistent all things considered. I savored that shit. Strongest 40 I've ever had and worlds better than the atrocious 10% rockhead. Feeling pretty bent right now, not quite as much as I expected but that's ok on a tuesday afternoon and I feel great. Thanks a bunch nitz, that one was awesome. Taste B, buzz A. 9/10

EDIT: the 10.1 gave me the most horrible stank beer gas ever today

the filthy musk smell in the beer I mentioned above did not end there

at work today I kept having to sneak off to empty rooms/areas to rip the rawest ass

rough times but totally worth it

d07c0m: Now this is a piece of work. I was up in Montreal for the Slayer show back in the summer of '06 and was desperately searching for something to swill. When my friend, who was accompanying me, and I finally found an open (it was about 6:00 PM) Depaneur (corner store which sells everything) we bought the hardest shit available. In this case: the 40oz monster that is Labatt Bleue: Dry. Well, I started this one out pretty easily, taking small sips, and ended up drinking bigger and bigger gulps with increasing gusto. Now the thing to remember here is it's almost as strong as wine, so it has a very heavy-in-alcohol taste which potentially slows down the speed of the drunkening. Anyway, this 40 goes down pretty smoothly (the alcohol content kicks pretty quickly though) and gives one of those 'eclectic' buzzes which is perfect for anyone wanting to get just drunk enough to be 'fucked up' but not 'fucked up' enough to be dizzy, puking, etc. All in all i give this 999/1000 slugs/swigs/points for essential drinkability and buzz factor properties.

P.S. I drank another 40 of 'normal' beer (Molson Export) right after this so I got pretty wasted and might not remember every detail about the 10.1% monster. Take my word for it though, this IS a kickass 40.

LMSCRacer: First of all, a BIG THANKS to Sippin Apache for this super hook up. Soon after my "Collectible Lava Lamp" arrived, it safely took residence in my beer frig awaiting the perfect moment. Well, today was it. Left work early to attend a parent-teacher conference and have tomorrow off and have just finished this fine 40 while reviewing the board. Decent enough hiss off the crack. For a 10%+ ABV, the initial taste was ok, not unlike Evil Eye or Four-O. You do gotta love those wide mouths. Very easy drinking, probably went down too fast judging by the fact I am having to type very slowly to avoid typical errors. When I finally get to Montreal, I will swill one of these with Sippin' (who my wife has fallen in love with his picture..Sorry Holmes). Overall, a GREAT brew. I recommend you start it ice cold as the swill (I imagine) would be rough warm. But since you can drink it quick enough to avoid warm swill this may not be an issue. My rating - 8/10 swills.
