Bruz: First sip made me think "Magnum". My entire reaction is "sub-par malt"... which is interesting considering this is supposedly a "premium beer". Why does a beer taste like a below average malt liquor? I've said enough to give any 40 fans an idea of what this is like... nothing special in taste, just a nice addition to the collection. But it does make my privates hurt... I'm 'bout to pee my pants so lemme finish up this review & do my bizniss... 4/10 swills. Much props out to ders0, MyLiverHurt & Detroit40oz for the hookup on this.

2/20/11 Maltliquorcommando: This is a pretty cheap, sweet tasting ice beer. It almost reminded me of a weak watered down Camo product without the alcohol bite. Overall I would say this is a pretty usless and flavorless beer. If your craving ice beer there are defenitly better options.

5/10

3/2/10 40zForSatan: MSR ice is a fuckin chump. I had an old brown bottle small mouth that detroit40oz hooked it up with, i was kickin back with my roommate watching the second season of Rob and Big because he pirated it and I've never seen it. Pretty weak all around, sucks because I need 2 more variants of this shit too. I don't really look forward to either but whatever, maybe I'll keep the clear small full and then drink the clear wide since it will be much more fresh so maybe that will impact the taste on this brew. I hope it does because I've really got no praise for this one whatsoever.

TASTE: 3/10
SWILL: 2/10
LABEL: 5/10
BUZZ: 4/10
OVERALL: 3/10

3/2/10 40ozsWILLin: Got this one from detroit40oz had a great crack and hiss but once I tasted it, it had no carbonation really no flavor no good burps and really no buzz all in all it has a pretty cool label for collectors but for taste I gave it a 5/10 swills!

12/10/09 RustythePelican: "A fresh, full-bodied brew"

Whatever. The last time I had MSR Ice was out of a brown bottle, and I thought it was pretty crappy.

This time, I sampled a wide-mouth from ders0, and I enjoyed it. It smelled a little funky, but tasted like a middle-of-the-road ice beer. Not quite as good as Milwaukee's Best Ice, but better than the typical "off-brand" ice beers (Beer 30 Ice, Clear Creek Ice, etc.)

I wouldn't buy it over MBI (I prefer the small-mouth), but at its price (under $2.00 in most places, I suspect), it's a decent beer. Maybe it will get me to rethink my general hatred for the shit that tends to be brewed in La Crosse . . .

10/11/09 d07c0m: Cheers to detroit40oz for this.

Third 40 of the day. Not buzzed at all any more.

Cracked it open expecting horrors but in fact was very plain tasting.

I think satan mentioned that the first sign of decomposing beer is a neutral taste.

I might have misquoted totally but ok.

Shit tasted plain and not bad at all.

OK buzz, I'm not looking forward to what my body will feel like tomorrow morning.

7/5/09 91firebird: I got this 40 from ders0 thanks man. I've wanted this one for a real long time and me and ders had been talking about trading for this for quite some time. I drank this on the 4th of July at a BBQ. My buddy has a massive pool in his backyard and I decided to swill this while swimming. The bottle is awesome and the beer itself isn't very dark in color. It gave off a wicked crack and the 1st sip kinda baffled me. I thought to myself "there's no way this is an ice beer" It tasted very watered down, kinda like Busch Light. As I kept on drinking this I was convinced this is not a Ice beer. Its very weak and has very little flavor. I finished it in about 15 minutes and I didn't get a buzz at all from this. It wasn't a bad 40, but I expected a flavor similar to MBI or Lite Ice. Still a kickass 40 and an awesome botttle for my collection. 7/10 swills.

6/28/09 ders0: I definitely need to review this one again. I can't believe I said this was rough. I just drank my second 40 of this ever (needed the clear bottle for my collection), but I may drink this more often. The first time I was ever exposed to MSR Ice was the first time I had a 40 of that. Since then I've been exposed to the 12 oz cans at full tilt. Last summer I bought 2, 30 packs of it since it's one of the cheapest racks here and pounded it constantly for a few weeks. It's a bad beer no doubt but it's much better out of the 40 than the can and it is the cheapest 40 at the liquor store so I'll probably start getting into it. It actually is pretty poundable and smooth. I want to compare it to MBI, but I don't think that's quite accurate. Although there is certainly nothing "rough" about it as I stated in my last review.

12/13/08 SouthLyon40s: Drank this about a week ago. Traded an empty Ice Man (plus $9) for empty Wild Cat, brown bottle Eagle, and Carling Black Label 40s with Detroit 40 Ouncer.
And a full Milwaukee Special Reserve Ice.

For the last two months or so I've been drinking this out of 12 oz cans. I've found drinking it straight from the can kind of sucks - it has this weird wine-alcohol taste that makes me think of a less offensive Camo. But if I get this shit in a freezing mug and chill it to near frozen temperatures it's great.
Plus it's 5.9% ABV
And it's $2.99 a six pack.

So that's what I was expecting with the 40.
And I took the first swig and was really shocked because this shit tasted just like malt liquor. It tasted 100% different than the cans I've been drinking this past month. Why? How? I don't know. But the taste is no where near. And I remember thinking that before I read any of the other reviews - and it seems like most everyone else got the malt taste.

And it tasted like pretty DECENT malt liquor at that. If I remember it had more of a "sour" taste than something like KC or Magnum.
It's nothing special. I WOULD drink this again though if I came across it. Every once in a while I'm randomly in the "bad" ice beer and the only thing available is Milwaukee's Best Ice. If I could get this I'd switch it up.

... Alright, re - review. Lets see if I like it as much as I did when I first tried it.

First sip. And this is out of the new wide mouth bottle thanks to ders0 in Minnesota... but it doesn't taste like any beer I've ever had before. It's weird. If I could get it near me I think I'd rep it pretty regularly. It's not straight up malty, but it's brewed in LaCrosse, and you can kind of taste the LaCrosse dirt that they're putting in a malt like Night Hawk. Kind of that type of taste. Not bad.

brooks79Z: got this 40 from rustythepelican.

just opened it. good crack, but a very weak hiss. first sip reminded me of a watered down mickeys. not a bad taste at all really. ive enjoyed all the other milwaukee 40's, so it wasnt a surprise that i'd like this one. not so sure about the mickeys comparison anymore, im about halfway done with this, and its tasting more like milwaukee's best ice, with a "minty" flavor mixed in.

overall, a very decent 40 to drink considering its a beer. great taste and average buzz factor

ill give this 40 a 7-10 for the taste
but only a 5/10 for buzz factor, not saying its bad, just average

JoeWebberlione: Just cracked this baby a few minutes ago & I'm takin it easy with it, where I gotta go to bed soon and dont want to get too crazy with it & want to enjoy it. The buzz on it is kind of nice but that may be due to the fact that I've been in negative degree weather underneath a train all nite. Seems to taste like your average run of the mill malt more than anything. Nothin much really to say about it other than its not bad. Nothin special though. I'd probably never go way out of my way to drink it again but it was nice to try. Thanks out to Detroit40ouncer for the hook up on this bitch. 6 out of 10 swills.
