Bruz: Swilled down my Piels 40 last night while watching some wrasslin' like a true white trash hero. Here's a fresh review: Typical American beer taste. If you close your eyes & someone hands this to you to drink, you'll know it's nothing but a boring brew (as opposed to malt lick). 2 other complaints: First, the swill was weak, tasting like sweat... but that's usually how it goes with warm brew. Secondly, no buzz. What good is a 40 that you can't even get buzzed off of? 5/10 swills.

3/23/10 White Mike: also got this from fett, from the reading it would seem hes the hookup

I got it from him in person, it was left behind at the semi motm 2010

I've had piels several times before but not for a long time.

Its kind of sucking to me right now.... has a sort of muddy taste to it, I don't know how to taste it. Not the crisp dry taste you would expect from a bad beer in a glass bottle.

8/24/09 d07c0m: Thanks to fett are in order.

Cracked it warm after a Genny Cream 40.

Spent about 1.5 hours on it, can't seem to drink it very quickly.

Not even finished while writing this review, I have about an inch left.

It's pissy beer in a 40, kinda weak.

If it were cold in a long neck it might be nice but as it is this is kinda disappointing and weak.

I just wanna go lie down but this is also a lot of factors affecting me.

Got a bit of acid reflux going as well.

4/10

7/10/09 SouthLyon40s: Piels City.

Needed this for the collection, so thanks to Havinafett for hooking me up with it. Cool looking label. Kind of old-school. This will be the first Piels I've ever had, not just the first time out of a 40.

Cracked it open. Real inoffensive first couple sips. I can't find anything wrong with it. It's got no defining taste like a PBR or Old Milwaukee, and (at least while it's still ice cold) it doesn't have what I associate with the mainstream bad-beers like Busch, Beast, or Old Style. Really crisp so far.

OK, now we got a little bit of a metallic taste creeping in. What I'd more associate with PBR although it hides itself alright.

Had a long day so this initially tasted real good and real refreshing, but that's wearing off.
It's just a normal run of the mill bad beer, bottled in a 40. Decent label. Flavor's alright but getting heavier still as it gets warmer, with a more pronounced metalic bite that I can live without. But it'll do.

Kind of boring. Cool label. Deteriorating taste as it gets warm, but it starts real good.

5/24/09 91firebird: First off a very big thank you to havinafett out in Philly for the hookup on the Piels 40oz. This is a 40 I've wanted for a long time and was happy to get this in the mail along with the new Schlitz Red Bull brown bottle. Down to the review. Great crack and a wicked hiss. This 40 has alot of carbonation and that is a good thing. Took a big swig to get a real taste and this is a great beer 40. Its on the same level with PBR and Old Style. Both of which are top notch in my book.

Basic American beer and out of a 40oz....It don't get no better than this. I really like swillin beer 40's and this was no exception. Although it was a little watery, it did have a solid beer flavor that made it very enjoyable. The label is great too, almost looks like an import but this is brewed right here in the good ol USA. Dunno what these things go for but I can't imagine they'd be any more than 3 bucks a pop. If I lived in the Philly area I would swill these on the reg. Great addition to my collection too. Overall 9/10 swills. Taste 9.2/10, buzz was very decent for a beer 40. Would have to say its pretty close to 5% ABV so it gets 8/10 swills. Coolness factor is 10/10 because its somewhat of a rarity and I am glad to have drank it and add it to my 40oz collection. If you guys get a chance, pick one up in a trade. You will not be disappointed.

2/12/09 D4N0: Great 40. Plain and simple. I found this 40 in a town called Cherry Hills, NJ? Can't remember, it was either Cherry Hills, NJ, Marlton, NJ, or Camden, NJ that line along that highway off the Ben Franklin Bridge. Anyways, great crack/hiss. Made a vid with the lady. Great "beer" 40. Great label. All around great 40. 8/10 taste. 5/10 buzz. 6.5/10 overall

2/08/09 BigJandthe40: I traded Sgarcia144 a St Ides for a Piels and really wasnt too excited about drinking it, after reading the reviews. I kept it in my fridge for a week before I drank this
The crack was week, and it tasted like fancy water to me, I have been drinking alot of HG as of late and this shit tasted like water too me. I did a vid for malttv and youtube a killed it with easy in 10:00 mins.
I would not drink this if it was local, but the bottle looks good in my collection I would give this a 5/10

Buzzcore: An old school name from Brooklyn, NY now contract brewed by Pabst. (What else is new, right?) At $1.29, it was cheap, but there are far better beers and malts, even in THIS price range. Not horrible, but it didn't impress me either. 2/10

dj oe 800: cracked this while eating leftover thanksgiving dinner.

decent hiss off the crack.

first sip: wow. this makes miller lite taste like bourbon. this is probably going to be your basic "beer forty" review, i can tell you that right now.

very carbonated. i can hear the bubbles bursting in the back of my throat. it sounds like the ocean. if it was less carbonated, it would be one of the most poundable beers i've encountered, up there with old style and schaefer light, strictly in terms of ridiculously low abv.

at the label: the taste is starting to get on my nerves. i thought at first that maybe if it was sweeter it would be great, but now i think it's kinda gross. dammit.

halfway pt: gross taste left for whatever reason. now, it's -- suprise! -- your basic bad beer, only a little more filling. carbonation starting to subside a little.

4th quarter: going down mad easy. significantly warmer than when i started, but that's no problem. at this point it is completely indistinguishable from any bad beer forty that i've ever had.

swill: warm and watery, just like every other bad beer forty on the market.

but don't get me wrong: i'm not shit-listing this four completely. when it comes to forties, bad beer is 9 times out of 10 the same thing, you've just gotta decide which one holds more sentimental value, or which label looks cool (this has a NICE looking label, classic bad beer look to the fullest) and boom, there's "your brand" of bad beer forty.

i drank a 22 of lionshead malt liquor, took my time with the forty, and still was able to get a slight buzz, even on a full stomach -- which is really fucking weird considering the abysmally low ABV. maybe it's just late or something. definitely something to use as a buzz-booster/maintainer.

i would love to get this in cans, a six pack of pounders and just shotgun the whole thing in like ten minutes -- pausing only to burp and nurse my brain-freeze.

Drastic Mezures: I bought this along with a bunch of other 40's for a guy at work when I went 40 hunting in Philly but he didn't drink this one so I traded him a Crazy Stallion for it. I pounded it down in about 15 min. and hero timed the last 1/4. This shit went down super easy. I was expecting to feel super full by the time I was 3/4 down but the full feeling never came. This was super cold when I drank it and had a very mild taste and also a mild buzz. Nothing special but not bad for a bad beer. I followed this up with a Country Club which was much better.

FultonCounty40z: basic beer 40, nothin new here. thanks to buzzcore for the trade, i love the sticker on the cap for '129 cents'. I had nothing against this beer, but would never buy it again...the only thing it has going for it is that it is available in a 40. fuck this beer and the horse it rode in on.

orentha: Basic below average beer 40. Tastes worse than Busch Light to me. The swill at the very end almost gagged me. No buzz factor and not a great taste for a ber 40. Thanks to Buzzcore for hooking me up, the price tag was still on it at $1.29. I definately woudn't pay much more than that for it...

pman433: cheap shit i dont like but piels light is ok

satan165: this was an average 'bad beer'. i had comparisons to old style in my mind before i even drank it, and that wasnt far off. i got this really cold but it didnt have as much carbonation as i would have liked. i havent had old style recently and cant remember if its quite this bad. piels kind of sucks, golden aniversary you would think to be real bad but it was WAY better then this shit, golden aniversary rules

ThUgWiGGa: Bad beer and i like it! I dont get subjected to this kind of american style bad beer often, so I enjoy it! Cheap canadian beer is almost always honey and sucks immensely, but this was just a clean tasting crisp brew, not very carbonated which is bad but just enough to make it enjoyable. A nice change from Canadian brews, though nothing spectacular, i like new things. 7/10

Tiger Tai: Piels is just another average beer 40 like Bud or Coors. yields no significant buzz but seemed pretty smooth going down with a normal beer taste. I'd rate Piels 5 of 10 Swills.
