Bruz: Well, in my original review I completely did not like the unique taste of this 40 & gave it a low rating. However, years later now, my opinion has greatly changed. The cap was practically impossible to crack, seemingly glued on. With some struggling and several attempts I finally broke the seal and am in! The first swig was pretty good, with a faint fruity tone to it. Definitely easy going on the pallet. I think I'm in for an enjoyable ride. I look forward to each upcoming sip! Now I am just over halfway through & am still really enjoying this smooth beer 40... I think this may be an afrodisiac! I ate meatloaf alongside this brew, and it was definitely complimentary. This 40 is making me irrational. The swill is ok... a little watery, a little rundown. Finished it up while watching the new WWE-owned ECW on the Sci-Fi channel. No buzz and a great & unique taste give this "bad beer" forty 8/10 swills! Thanks out to Fat John & neufutur for the 2 times I got to drink this! |

7/7/10 sleazye: Huge, huge thanks to Detroit40oz for hooking me up with this seemingly R.I.P. bad beer ice 40. Cracked this open after getting home from work. I was kind of thrown off that there was little to no hiss, however, this bottle is nearly a year old. Crack was decent. For an ice beer, the taste is very light, not that I mind this or anything. Chugging this beer is super-easy. Another great thing I like about this. Not too much of a buzz factor, but this is a perfect bad beer 40 to have on a blistering hot Summer day like this. All in all, if you can still get your hands on a drinkable 40 of this, go for it. Thanks again for this classic 40, Detroit40oz!

4/13/10 SouthLyon40s: I’ve actually never had this until now. I’ve bought countless 40s of this for crew members and traded them all across the country… but I’ve never actually had it. The low ABV scared me off. Well, didn’t scare me. But I always figured, what’s the point of an ice beer below 5% ABV? But I’ve actually been drinking more and more light beer as of late, so this shouldn’t seem overly wimpy. Wow what a nice flavor. It really hits the spot out of the bottle. I’m not a fan of Schlitz out of a can… and I’ve never had Schlitz Ice period, but this is something I could see myself drinking on a regular occasion. No harsh aftertaste. All around good beer, unless you’re looking to get drunk super quick… which as I get older I find I want to do less and less. I’m reflecting on this beer. It’s sad that I’m late to the game, because word on the street is that this stuff is getting fazed out. The one I’m drinking is six months old, and no newer specimens have been spied as yet.
Finished one without much of a buzz… but what can you expect from a 4.5 ABV 40? Realistically not much buzz-wise. But makes up with an awesome taste. ![]() |

3/2/10 40zForSatan: I caught this on probably the last run since it has been confirmed this 40 is going extinct and the one I just had recently had a fresh date. Very good for an ice beer, a lot of the time ice beer really taste a lot alike, but this one was super crisp and definitely very refreshing. I slammed this one down while playing some video games on a cold day, I wasn't running the heat at the time so i was mad bundled up but still wanted to drink ice cold brews. I didn't get too wild of a buzz off of it but I'm not complaining, I honestly didn't really expect it.
TASTE: 7/10 |

3/2/10 40ozsWILLin: This beer here unfortunately is being discontinued now so im glad to be apart of the view that have tried it and being able to collect it. The crack and hiss off this one was excellent and the taste was that of a budweiser that had sat out in the sun for two days then been refridged for three days. Definitely no buzz but if you're into chugging beers this is one to go down on. I got this 40 from detroit40oz in the mail and even after all the shaking and moving around this forty still had that carbonation that all the beer drinkers and malt drinker like so in my opinion I give this one a 8/10 swills. would have been 10 if it gave me a buzz but unfortunately I didnt get one! |

1/25/10 ders0: This is likely my last chance to review this which sucks real bad. I've had this 40 only once before last summer thanks to SL40s. The current one is from Detroit40oz. This is the taste that all ice beers strive for, but few achieve. Real crisp and has almost a nutty flavor that goes down as it should. It really sucks that this 40 is going away and it really sucks that it had such a small distribution to begin with. As far as I'm concerned this 40 should be mass produced and at least distributed in the same ranges as the Schlitz bulls. There really isn't much else to say. As far as Beer 40s go, this MBI and Miller Lite Ice seem to be on top of the game. R.I.P. Schlitz Ice |

11/30/09 beam21: Schlitz ice is the fucking bomb. This is likely the best beer 40 I've ever had. Sharp, crisp ice brewed flavor with no foul sweetness or lingering metallic aftertaste whatsoever. Medium carbonation, perfect for slamming (which unfortunately is not what I'm going for tonite). I cracked it hastily and it's not quite down to optimum temperature, which I'm kind of pissed about but the important thing is that seemingly has no effect whatsoever on this brew, highly unusual for ice beers. I dare say this is better than Icehouse. Taste A-. There's not much sense in grading the buzz on ice beers as they are all pretty much the same. Overall 8.5/10. 165 on the detroit connect |

2/28/09 dj oe 800: wow. this is incredibly bad, even for a bad beer. i like it, mind you. somehow i remember what regular schlitz tasted like, and it reminds me very much of regular schlitz, only the aftertaste is so mild as to be almost nonexistant. has a hoppiness to it that reminds me a little of blatz, however said hoppiness is not nearly as pungent nor lingering. hot damn is this satisfying. it's almost a shame i'm swilling this in the winter time; this seems invaluable as a summer afternoon indulgence. it's mad, mad fun to just slam this -- and easy. i'm also having a lot of trouble with the fact that this is an ice beer, yet it's so watery and mild, and the ABV is lower than some light beers (albiet none that i could name).
southlyons -- much thanks for the hookup on this one. ![]() |

9/15/08 computertekguy: Just cracked it open and wow.... Lots of flavor. Has a fruity taste to it, along the lines of Labatt Ice. This one I got is fresh, just came into my local liquor store today. Decent carbonation and the crack was good. Never been a Schlitz beer fan, but I could see drinking again. The buzz is weak for an ice beer. The taste is spot on. I rather drink a Red Bull or Blue Bull, but this was worth the $1.75 . 7/10 swills |

7/28/08 91firebird: Many thanks to my man SouthLyons for the hookup on the Schlitz Ice 40. This is one that I have been wanting ever since I became a member of the 40oz Crew. Had a really nice crack to it and the smell was typical of bad beer. 1st swig and this had bad beer written all over it. Which is nice because I'm a big fan of bad beers, especially those that are "Ice". Very smooth tasting, not alot of carbonation. This is almost like a light beer in some ways. I put it down in about 15 minutes. The buzz wasn't as great as I would have thought. I've had this out of a can many years ago and used to buy it alot because it was very cheap and a 12pack would fuck you up pretty good. When I found out it still existed in a 40 I had to have it. Overall 8/10 swills. Would have been higher if the buzz factor was a little higher. I've give it a better than decent score for the kickass label and the fact that this 40 was one that I had wanted for a long time. |

Buzzcore: Have been wanting this 40 forever. Finally got it, but tastes fucking terrible and provides ZERO buzz. Only ice beer I've ever seen that doesn't list the % on the label. Which means it must 5% or lower, according to federal law. Tastes just like the regular old man Schlitz, which isn't very good. However, I'll admit it's better than the Beast 40 that Chino is attempting to get down, just to add another bottle to his collection......... bleeeaaaahhh! 3/10 |

Fat John: I swear the shit was old when i drank it.It tasted super flat.Other than being flat the shit wasn't bad.No kinda buzz from it at all though.I wanna try a fresh one someday to give a real review but for now this is all i have.Swill was swill.Nothing too great nor terrible.overall this shit wasn't great though.Maybe if it was fresher i'd think different but until i drink another i'm gonna have to hit it up with a rating of 3 out of 10 swills. |
|
JoeWebberlione: this is one of those 40s, doesnt pack much of a buzz at all but has a nice flavor, when you want beer but dont really want to get drunk right off, reach for one of these bad boys. Really nice flavor to it. Never had ODouls but if I were ever to drink it I'd want it to taste like this, maybe when the 40 of odouls comes out . But eiather way I'd drink again. Thanks out to Detroit40ouncer the dude I buy 40s by the mutha fuckin case from! 7 out of 10 swills, would be a higher rating if it fucked me up more. |
|
neufutur: I have no clue how old this 40 is, but I picked it up in the extreme lower right corner of a store on Livingston avenue in Columbus, Ohio. Still, this 40 is damn good. The beer goes down smoothly with an interesting aftertaste. I stuck this in my freezer for about an hour, so there was only the most minor amount of swill at the bottom. I don't know where else to find this now, but for a good and cheap 40, Schlitz Ice may just be what to pick up. There is not much to the taste, but this is a fun 40 to drink while you are out at a barbecue or chilling with friends. |

satan165: thanx to myliverhurts for this one. i had wanted it a very long time. i had been teased with sightings of 12 oz cans in indiana but never a 40. now it would seem that possibly the 40s are only available in michigan. i am a fan of the regular schlitz beer 40s so this was a natural progression. i got a decent crack off of it and the first taste brought me back to around 1994 when i had some of my first drunken escapades, supplied by some other ice brews which were just hitting the scene at the time: icehouse and miller lite ice. right away it had the distinctive 'ice' flavor. the buzz was very minor, as i had not drank ni a few days previous yet i still got almost no buzz from this thing. it tasted good top to bottom and i thoughouly enjoyed it. i would love to bring back a case of these from michigan. excellent stuff. |
